WHO CAN UNDERSTAND IT?
WHO CAN UNDERSTAND IT?

"O Lord, I know that the path of [life of] a man is not in himself; It is not within [the limited ability of] man [even one at his best] to choose and direct his steps [in life].”--Jeremiah 10:23 (AMP)

"The heart is deceitful above all things,
    and desperately sick;
    who can understand it?”--Jeremiah 17:9 (ESV)

None of the philosophies, behavioral sciences, or religions that do not accept the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ have any logical explanation for the perversity and outright insanity of human behavior.  Humanly speaking there is NO WAY of understanding the terrible things that are done by people.  “Who can understand it?”  No one can understand it apart from the clear teaching of the Scriptures about the nature of man and the potential for evil that is there.  “Deceitful above all things” and “desperately sick” are very strong words indeed but ABSOLUTELY 100% ACCURATE.  We see their truthfulness playing out before us everyday.  Genesis 1-11 tells us exactly why we are where we are in our deeply troubled and conflicted world.  I accept this record as inspired and historically accurate.  We do not have this clear teaching anywhere else except in the Scriptures.  A part of that Genesis record includes the promise of a Savior which was fulfilled in the mission of Jesus Christ (see Genesis 3:15; John 17:4; 19:30).  I thank God for the clarity that we have in the Bible about the root problem of evil and also for the plan of redemption.  Merely acknowledging these facts without actually experiencing the resurrection power of Jesus in our lives will not be sufficient to save us from the deceptions that engulf an unbelieving world.  Let us draw nearer to our Savior with every passing day (Hebrews 10:19-22; James 4:8).
